Women's Individuals

Who: Individual Players (players without a team) wanting to play in the Women’s Tuesday League, age 16 and up.

What: every season (year around), PortlandBasketball.Com does indeed form one team for individual players.

When: the next season for this team will start- when the next Women’s Tuesday league starts; games are only on Tuesdays.

Where: we cannot guarantee where you will play because we never know exactly who will sign up, but as the program grows into two individual teams someday, we will try to have one team that plays more on the west side (Bally Fitness on Barnes Road) and one team that plays more towards the East side of the metro. Right now, we do not know if we will have more than 1-team and so we cannot guarantee where you will play but games generally will all be in Portland.

Why: playing basketball each week is a great way to stay in shape (without having to motivate yourself, let the actual game motivate you)

How to register: sign up to play as an individual player, pay online and you will be on a team, for sure.

R
egister and pay early: the only question we have is whether there will be 1 team or 2 teams so to help us be more accurate in knowing this (whether we will form 2 teams or just 1 team and 2 is better for the customer) by signing up early/now (and spreading the word- get your friends to join up with you).

Uniforms: those will be provided at your first game, typically by the captain of the team who will bring the uniforms each week.

Numbers of players on an Individual team roster: We will carry 8 players on the roster, which means everyone will get a good amount of playing time, as there are almost always 1 or 2 players missing per week leaving the roster at 6 or 7 players per game. Players should sub into the game every 3 to 4 minutes to keep playing time evenly balanced. Restated: coming out is not about whether you are tired, rather- players need to play even minutes as everyone paid equally. And do not bring friends on the weeks where your team only has 5 or 6 players because those are the weeks where there is more playing time for everyone. If you have a friend that wants to play, sign them up officially with you for the following season.

Skill level: we will do our best to get you in the right skill level- but- you are an individual and getting you on a team is our only guarantee (along with you playing 8 games) but saying that every game will be good or that your teammates will be well versed in ball movement, we cannot say that. History shows that if you stick with it for the entire season though (play all 7 games), it always seems to work out (we have seen terrible chemistry week 1 turn into a solid team by the second half of the season but you have to stick with it to finally get to that moment sometimes); restated- bear with the bumps early in your season.

Team name and uniforms: After you pay and register, you will be looking for your schedule; that schedule comes out only a day or two in advance of your first game, so you need to know that you play on the league start date, no earlier than 6:10pm and no later than 9:30pm (90% of the games are in the 7pm/8pm range); the schedule is posted on the PortlandBasketball.Com web site of course. The team name you are looking for will be called- ‘something Indis’ (indis- referring to individuals).

Can you join with friends? -yes absolutely. Please indicate what friend, or friends, you would like on your team by email. If you have any friends or co-workers that want to play with you on any of these individual teams, have them register and/or you can pay and register for them. We will get you on the same team.

Can I be moved to another individuals’ team? To make it enjoyable for all players and to keep teams equally competitive, we may need to switch players to different teams after the session has started. If you signed up with a friend, we will keep you on the same team.

What if I feel that I have been placed in the wrong skill level? We will do our best to move you but honestly we may not be able to... you are an individual and getting you on a team is our guarantee and playing 8 games is our guarantee but saying that every game will be good, your teammates will be well versed in ball movement, we cannot say that. History shows that if you stick with it for the entire season though (for all 8 games) it sort of works itself out... so bear with the bumps early in your season. If, after the season, you want to move up or down, you can talk to us then.

Refunds: There will be no refunds for any reason. 75% of the players enjoy playing on these 'individuals' teams, and given a few games, the kinks work themselves out; however, 25% do not enjoy the 'individuals' teams and typically go out and recruit their own team after the season- and that is okay.

How do I rejoin for the following sessions? On your final game of the session (game 7 of 7), all of the individual players will be asked (at the gym) if they want back in for the next season (which starts the very next week) and then told- to either pay right there (at the gym) or to go home and pay online that night; again, we ask that you lock in early so we can stay organized with who is in and who is out.
